The Database

About the Database

University West, Department of Nursing, Health and Culture has in 2011 established the Center on Salutogenesis. We are today responsible for the a the website www.salutogenesis.hv.se. We are running a systematic and analytical research synthesis on salutogenic research 1992-up to date. The website is a continuation of a former one located in Helsinki, Finland. The new website is now in Swedish and in English.

We continuously update the sites including the database (only in English). However, to build up and keep it  updated is time consuming. Therefore we invite authors of scientific papers published in peer reviewed journals to join us in this task. Please fill in a review protocol (in English) of your study in line with the presented model. Please send your review protocol to the Responsible Editor of the website, Monica Eriksson. We will thereafter put the information into the Database. This is a possibility for Authors to spread their findings to all of us interested in the field of salutogenesis. Thank you for your cooperation!

Analysis of the importance of family in the development of sense of coherence during adolescence

Year
2012
Country
Spain
Sample
Adolescents
Aged 13 - 18
Mean age 15,41
Method
Cross-sectional

Analysis
Multiple regression analysis
Aim
Examine the role of different dimensions of the family con¬text in the development of SOC. Potential gender and age differences in SOC were examined as well.
SOC Scale
SOC-29, 7-point Likert scale
Statistical data

(n, mean total SOC, mean the three dimensions, SOC division, correlates to other standardized measures, response rate)
N= 7580, mean total SOC = 4.59 (from 1 to 7)

Language
Spanish
Main result
Main results
Differences in SOC between boys and girls were not found, but 13-14 year olds showed a slightly higher SOC than older adolescents.
Family dimensions (affection, ease of communication with parents, parental knowledge, quality of the relationship between parents and family affluence) explained 18.1% of the variability on SOC scores, after controlling for demographic variables. Perceived family wealth and frequency of family activities failed to make a significant contribution beyond the aforementioned family dimensions.
Limitations of the study: Cross-sectional design does not allow drawing definitive conclusions about the direction of the relationships between family dimensions and SOC
